VISITOR VISA

Bright Path Immigration Consultants

What You Need to Know About Visitor Visas in Canada

Most travelers need a valid entry document such as an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visa to visit Canada. There are two types of Visitor Visa’s, a single-entry visa & a multiple-entry visa. Both are valid for a fixed period and cannot be used after they expire.

A single-entry visa allows you to come to Canada only once. After you leave Canada, excluding travel to the United States and St. Pierre and Miquelon, you will need a new visa to travel back to Canada. A multiple-entry visa on the other hand allows visitors to come and go from Canada, usually for six months at a time, without having to reapply. It is valid for up to 10 years, or one month before your passport expires, whichever comes first.

The Embassy will require a time period of 10-15 days to process your visitor visa application. It goes without saying that you need to make sure that you fill all forms without error & attach all valid documents to be submitted.

As with any type of visa, you will also be required to produce certain proofs that you are not a threat to Canada. This proof come in the form of a medical certificate proving that you are in good health, are not suffering from any communicable disease & do not carry any deadly virus, as well as a Police Clearance Certificate stating that you have no criminal or immigration-related convictions.

As part of Visa application, the applicants might have to go through an interview with an embassy official in which they have to convince the immigration officer that they will leave Canada at the end of their visit & also that they have enough money for their stay. The amount of money the applicant will need can vary. It depends on things such as duration of the stay & whether you will stay in a hotel, or with friends or relatives.

How Long Can a Visitor Stay In Canada?

Most visitors are allowed a six-month stay from the day they entered Canada. If the officer authorizes a stay of less than six months, they will indicate in your passport the date by which you must leave Canada. If you want to stay longer than your authorized stay, you should apply for an extension at least 30 days before the authorized end of your stay.

5 Main Documents You Will Need With Your TRV Forms

There are five major documents you are required to show when applying for a TRV. Note that each immigration case is a little different depending on your specific situation, but generally you should have the following documentation when applying for a ‘Temporary Resident Visa’ in Canada:

  1. Proof of your ties to your home country.
  2. Proof of funds for your visit to Canada.
  3. ID such as a passport or county resident card.
  4. A letter of invitation from the person inviting you to come to Canada.
  5. Proof that you will be staying in Canada only on a temporary basis.

Disclaimer: There may be other documents and information that you may need.Individuals must obtain a TRV before departure from their home country. Individuals cannot obtain a TRV upon arrival in Canada.

Why Seeking Professional Immigration Help is Important

While the procedures for applying for a TRV may seem uncomplicated, some applicants apply without seeking any help from an immigration lawyer, thinking that they can ‘do it themselves’. For TRV applications, there is actually a higher risk of refusal in cases where the application is not properly prepared. The standards are very high. We find that the number one reason why applications are denied is due to forms not being correctly filled out. It is a shame when someone can not fulfill their dreams because of one missed ‘dotted i’ or ‘crossed t’. You can increase your chances at getting an approval on your TRV applications with the assistance of professional immigration experts.
